Associate Professor Taylor trained in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Medicine at Hutt Hospital, Middlemore Hospital and the Otara Spinal Injuries Unit. He undertook further fellowship training at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
In addition to part-time practice at the Wakefield Specialist Medical Centre, he is Consultant Rheumatologist at Hutt Hospital and Visiting Rheumatologist at Gisborne Hospital, Hauora Tairawhiti. He is also Associate Professor (Rehabilitation) at the University of Otago, Wellington, and supervises research thesis students.
His principle research interests include classification criteria and health-status measurement, especially in relation to psoriatic arthritis and gout, and rehabilitation process, especially goal-setting. His clinical interests include adult rheumatology and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He was a member of the National Advisory Committee on Health and Disability between 2007 and 2011, was a previous President of the New Zealand Rehabilitation Association and is currently Honorary Secretary for the New Zealand Rheumatology Association.
