    • Recognise epidemiology & biology of HPV-associated head and neck cancer, in particular the burgeoning problem of HPV related oropharyngeal cancer in NZ, and the importance of HPV vaccination
    • Learn the current treatment paradigm for oropharyngeal cancers & the steps involved in head and neck radiotherapy.
  • Dr Swee Tan (Plastic Surgeon) – The economic impact of HPV-related cancers – prevention is a better solution.  With the following learning outcomes:
    • The cost of treating HPV-related (oropharyngeal, cervical, uterine, vaginal, valval, penile and anal/anal canal) cancers, is conservatively estimated as >$105 million in 2019-2022, in Aotearoa New Zealand. This cost and the costs of pre-cancer detection and treatment (e.g., colposcopy and colposcopy directed treatments of $49 million during 2019-2022), are avoidable.
    • HPV vaccination is cost-effective at preventing HPV-related cancers. The World Health Organisation’s goal to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030, is that 90% of girls worldwide will be fully vaccinated by age 15. New Zealand’s national targets are low by international standards, yet the country has continually failed to meet these lower targets with persistent inequities, and vaccination rates dropped even further during and post-COVID. Initiatives to increase our HPV vaccination rates will be presented.
  • Dr. Han Kim –  Cutaneous Head & Neck cancers and indications for RT
    • Indication for post-op radiotherapy
    • Definitive radiotherapy for early skin cancers
  • Dr Emily Yassaie – Facial Nerve Palsy
    • Facial palsy management and referrals
    • Facial palsy surgery
  • Dr. Cathy Ferguson – Neck Masses in Adults
    • Revise the classification of adult neck  masses
    • Be aware of risk factors for H & N cancer
    • Be aware of red flag symptoms
    • Understand the Fast Track Cancer pathway
  • Dr. Annie Wong – Systemic Treatments for Head & Neck Cancer
    • Understand the role of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in the treatment of head and neck cancer
    • Understand the role of immunotherapy in advanced or locally recurrent cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
  • Dr. Stephanie Manning – Management of Thyroid conditions
    • To refresh knowledge on thyroid nodule work up and management
    • To review thyroid cancer management in the post-operative setting
