Wakefield Hospital’s Project Time Line

Our Wakefield Hospital redevelopment is a significant investment in the Wellington community, with over $166 million committed to substantially redevelop the campus.

From breaking ground in June 2019, Wakefield Hospital has undergone a significant transformation with the demolition of multiple buildings and rebuilding its Specialist Centre, a six-storey facility designed to the highest standards.

Stage one of Wakefield’s development was completed July 2021 and sees the Specialist Centre services – Specialist Centre, Gastroenterology Centre, Heart Centre, Pacific Radiology, Preassessment rooms, and Mojo Cafe now operating.

Commencing second half of 2021, stage two will see five levels built which will be home to 37-bed inpatient ward, 10 ICU/HDU beds, cardiac cath lab, seven theatres and recovery areas, an endoscopy suite, reception and day of admissions, and much more across four levels. A fifth level shelled for future growth and expansion will be ready to fit-out, anticipating to meet demand for additional healthcare services in the region.
